Water Heater Installs

Water heater factoid:
A British decorative/house painter named Benjamin Maughan invented the first instantaneous water heater in 1868. Called the "gas geyser" is didn’t have a flue to vent gas vapors, so was a little risky to use, while stepping into the tub. This was later refined by Edwin Ruud, a Norwegian inventor in 1889 and became the automatic storage water heater.

There are many types or models of water heaters in use, throughout the United States. Every home, condo and apartment has one and it’s used continuously to supply hot water to most fixtures in the home.

Currently there are two basic types: tanked water heaters and tankless.

Tanked Water Heaters

Water HeaterIf you’ve ever watched the TV show, "How It’s Made" on the Discovery Channel, you may have seen one being put together. It resembles a well-insulated, safe to use, oversized tea kettle that sits in a closet, garage or basement. Activated by sensors that tells when the water temperature falls below a certain degree.

It’s effectively been in use since, well, since 1868 and continues to provide a needed function.

The one "downside" to having a tanked water heater is that occasionally it will heat water up, to maintain a preset temperature range, even if there is no immediate demand in the house for hot water. However, improvements over the years have made these appliances more efficient. They use less gas or electricity and maintain temperatures for longer periods of time.

Tankless Water Heater

Tankless Water HeaterThese have come on strong in the marketplace over the past ten years and their appeal continues to grow. Some of the reasons for this growth are:

They are an "on-demand" system. When someone turns on the hot water tap or shower, the system kicks in and very rapidly starts producing hot water.

They are not in use when there’s no demand, thus no unnecessary heating of water.

Overall they use gas more efficiently; on when needed, off when not.

For larger families they can efficiently supply a "never ending" supply of hot water, as long as the demand is there. No complaints about being left out.

Tanked and Tankless serve a purpose – Call Pacific Plumbing and ask for a serviceman to evaluate your needs. We’ll explain your options and give you an estimate on the spot.

Water Heater Repairs

Apparment Water HeatersThe average heater lasts 7-10 years. In areas where there is hard water or water with a high concentration of minerals, this may create sediment at the bottom on the tanks. Over time the system becomes less efficient to run or simply begins to breakdown.

Contact Pacific Plumbing and ask for one of our serviceman to come out and evaluate your system. A simple less expensive repair may be all that’s required. Don’t guess call us and ask for our FREE estimate.
